BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium - BCISESS 18’
The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organized its second Emerging Scholars’ Symposium on 11th October 2018.
Eighteen selected research papers were presented by young researchers under the main theme of “Global Dynamics” .
The Inaugural Ceremony
Dr. Harinda Vidanage, Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies delivered the opening remarks while the Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. Anushka Wijesinghe, Advisor, Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade. Mr. Daniel Fisher from the Australian High Commission also graced the Inaugural Ceremony.
First Session
In the first session of the Symposium, young researchers presented papers on Stratgizing Diplomacy, Future Challngs and Challenges of State Building . This session included three parallel panels which were chaired by Mr. I.H. Cooke, Deputy Director, BCIS, Mr. Nilanthan Niruthan, Visiting Research Associate and Dr. Minna Thaheer, Senior Research Professional, Centre for Poverty Analysis.
Second Session
At the second session of the symposium, researchers presented papers based on Strategising Diplomacy II, Gender and Politics and Perspectives on Governance. These three parallel panels were chaired by Ms. Bhagya Senarathane, Lecturer, Department of Strategic Studies, Kotelawal Defence University, Dr. Vageesha Gunasekara, the Executive Director of American Institute of Sri Lankan Studies and Ms. Nirmani Liyanage, Program Manager / Researcher, Search for Common Ground.
Certificate Awarding Ceremony
Certificates were awarded to the young researchers who presented their research at the BCIS ESS 18 by Dr. Harinda Vidanage, Director/BCIS, Mr. Ms. Ramya P.S won the Best Paper Award and Mr. Ershad Mutalip received runners up - award at the ceremony.
Post Conference Reception

The post- conference reception was held at the Saffron Committee Room, BMICH after the Symposium to appreciate the contribution of the Panel Chairs, research paper presenters, abstracts editors, sponsors and resource persons.
