BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium - BCISESS 19’

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organized its third Emerging Scholars’ Symposium on 24th October 2019.
Eighteen selected research papers were presented by young researchers under the main theme of “IR@100” .
The Inaugural Ceremony
​
Dr. Harinda Vidanage, Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies delivered the opening remarks while the Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Nayani Melagoda, Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo. Ms. Victoria Coakley, Deputy High Commissioner, Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka also graced the Inaugural Ceremony.
First Session
​
In the first session of the Symposium, young researchers presented papers on Diplomacy in the 21st Century, Emerging Conflict Dynamics, and Global Implications of China’s Rise.This session included three parallel panels which were chaired by Mr. I.H. Cooke, Deputy Director, BCIS, Dr. Maneesha S. Wanasinghe – Pasqual, Head, Department of International Relations, University of Colombo, Mr. Nilanthan Niruthan, Visiting Research Associate, BCIS
Second Session
​
At the second session of the symposium, researchers presented papers based on Technological Disruptions on the 21st Century, Geopolitics in the 21st Century, Theory of International Relations. These three parallel panels were chaired by Mr. Arshad Cassim, IT Analysist, Ms. Bhagya Senaratne, Lecturer, Department of Strategic Studies, Kotelawal Defence University, Ms. Kulani Wijayabahu, Lecturer, Department of International Relations, University of Colombo
Certificate Awarding Ceremony
Certificates were awarded to the young researchers who presented their research at the BCIS ESS 19 by Dr. Harinda Vidanage, Director/BCIS, Mr. Trivan Annakkarage won the Best Paper Award at the Conference.
Post Conference Reception
​
The post- conference reception was held at the Olympus, BCIS after the Symposium to appreciate the contribution of the Panel Chairs, research paper presenters, abstracts editors, sponsors and resource persons.
