BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium - BCISESS 21’

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organized its fourth Emerging Scholars’ Symposium on December 02, 2021.
Twenty eight selected research papers were presented by young researchers under the main theme of “International Relations in the New Normal and Beyond” .
The Inaugural Ceremony
​
Ambassador Sumith Nakandala, Senior Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies delivered the opening remarks while the Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Gehan Gunatileke, Legal and Human Rights Expert.
First Session
​
In the first session of the Symposium, young researchers presented papers on International Relations, in Cyberspace, South Asia and the Evolving Strategic Competition in the Indian Ocean, Vaccine Diplomacy and New Dynamics in International Relations, and Environmental Security and Regionalism. This session included four parallel panels which were chaired by Mr. Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Dr. Athulasiri Samarakoon, Dr. Gehan Gunatileke and Prof. Praveen Abhayaratne.
Second Session
​
At the second session of the symposium, researchers presented papers based on Human Security and Violence, South Asia and Evolving Strategic Competition in the Indian Ocean, Vaccine Diplomacy and New Dynamics in International Relations and Gender and Violence. These four parallel panels were chaired by Dr. Maneesha Wanasinghe-Pasqual, Dr. Menik Wakkumbura, Dr. Ruvaiz Haniffa and Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne. Mr. Kasun Pathiraja, Ms. Thilini Goonasekara, Mr. Nilanthan Niruthan and Air Commodore Thushara Sirimanne served as discussants of the panels respectively. Dr. Rangamini Werawatta, Mr. Arshad Cassim, Dr. Anver Hamdani and Mr. Navam Niles served as discussants of the respective panels.
Certificate Awarding Ceremony
Certificates were awarded to the young researchers who presented their research at the BCIS ESS 21 by Ambassador Sumith Nakandala, Senior Director/BCIS. Ms. Sachini Dias won the Best Paper Award at the Conference.
