BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium - BCISESS 22’

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organized its third Emerging Scholars’ Symposium on  December 02, 2022. 
Sixteen selected research papers were presented by young researchers under the main theme of “Dynamics of Global Cooperation and Conflict in the Contemporary World” .

 

The Inaugural Ceremony

Ambassador Sumith Nakandala, Senior Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies delivered the opening remarks while the Keynote Address was delivered by His Excellency Michael Appleton High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka. 

 

First Session

​

In the first session of the Symposium, young researchers presented papers on Viability of Regionalism and Challenges for Multilateralism, Maritime Security, Economic Crisis, International Financing & Trade and  Governance, Gender and Human Security. This session included four parallel panels which were chaired by Dr. Athulasiri Samarakoon, Senior Lecturer Politics and International Studies, Open University, Nugegoda, Professor Chaminda Padmakumara, Head of the Department of International Relations, University of Colombo, Professor Sirimal Abeyratne Professor in Economics, University of Colombo, and Dr. Chaminda Abeysinghe Head of the Department of International Studies, University of Kelaniya. Mr. Hashan Wijesinghe, Lecturer Department of International Studies, University of Kelaniya, Rear Admiral Y. N. Jayarathna, Retired Chief of Naval Staff, Dr. Dayaratna Silva Executive Director, Pathfinder Foundation and Dr. Sujata Gamage Senior Research Fellow, LIRNEasia served as discussants of the panels respectively.
