BCIS Emerging Scholars Symposium - BCISESS 23’

​

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organized its sixth Emerging Scholars’ Symposium on November 2023. Eighteen selected research papers were presented by young researchers under the main theme of “Global Politics and Local and Regional Responses: Challenges and Cooperation for States and Other Actors”

 

The Inaugural Ceremony 

​

Mr. Wasantha Mantripala, CAO and Registrar, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies delivered the opening remarks while the Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Natasha Palansuriya. 

 

First Session

​

In the first session of the Symposium, young researchers presented papers on Competition and Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region, Human Security, Migration, Gender, and Politics, Cyber Politics and the Realities of the Virtual World. This session included two parallel panels which were chaired by Professor Gamini Keerawella, Executive Director/ BCIS, Dr. Minna Thaheer, Director/BCIS,  Ms. Tharishi Hewavithanagamage,Programme Officer of the International Relations Division / BCIS, Ms. Maheshi Jayawardena, Research Officer/BCIS were served as discussants as the panels respectively.   

 

Second Session

​

At the second session of the symposium, researchers presented papers based on Cyber Politics and the Realities of the Virtual World and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Policy- Issues and Way Forward.  These two parallel panels were chaired by Dr. Athulasiri Samarakoon, Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka and Professor Amal Jayawardena, Member of the Academic Board of the BCIS. Ms. Isuri Wickramarathna Siriwardhana, Research Associate/ BCIS and Ms.Shayani Jayasinghe, Research Officer/BCIS served as desiccants of the two panels respectively.

Certificates were awarded to the young researchers who presented their research at the BCIS ESS 2023 by Prof. Gamini Keerawella, Executive Director/BCIS, Dr. Minna Thaheer, Director/BCIS and Mr. Wasantha Mantripala, CAO and Registrar, BCIS.
